Collections are amazing things. For 10 minutes or so this morning I looked though a person’s collection of badges that a foolhardy parent was selling at a car boot sale. They were officially awesome. And 5 pence each.
There is a moment in High Fidelity when the protagonist can’t bring himself to buy a collection of rare records from a women who is selling her ex’s collection. I felt like this today. There was too much love and time invested in these badges for them to be sold off for peanuts in a field on a Sunday morning.
Although I wanted them all, I allowed myself just 50p’s worth.
Here are some of them:

Hey, There’s egg on your teeth!

Surely, nationality should not be the only criterion.

Can you imagine the co-op in Lapland?

ButterflyPolite’s motto.
So, what collections have you started today?

I wore “C.D Ask me?” yesterday.
And people do.
Badges work!

That’s kind of heart breaking isn’t it? I wonder what the former badge collector is doing right now? Hopefully he or she is still around and collecting other things that will comfort him/her when they find out that their mum sold all their childhood memories for sweet feck all…

“Einfach bitten Sie mich, mich zurück zu stoppen oder zu küssen” said the fraulein when I wore the “Kiss me I’m German badge”. (Just tell me to stop, or kiss me back).

A friend of mine lost ALL of his star wars figures, including the millennium falcon, and an at-at walker via his mum’s car boot activity without his consent/prior knowledge.
Harsh reality of life, precious things can be taken from us without warning.
As for my own collections… I picked up a bargain star wars set, loads of figures, millennium falcon, at-at walker, the works; all from a car boot, some woman didn’t really know what she was selling… what a steal!

This is really sad but I used to collect the lids of the Smartie tubes to see how many it would take me to get the whole alphabet. It took quite a few which I kept in an old Christmas card box until my mum found them and threw them out. Shame, they don’t even have lids anymore! Although I doubt they’d be worth anything anyway.
